Minor Surgical Procedures for Nurse Practitioners – Level 1

Designed specifically for licensed Nurse Practitioners (APRNs), this hands-on continuing education course focuses on essential minor surgical procedures and techniques used in clinical practice. Course content includes local anesthesia, surgical instruments and suture selection, wound preparation and closure, fundamental suturing techniques, alternative wound-closure methods, incision and drainage (I&D) of cutaneous abscesses, and skin biopsy techniques including shave, punch, and excisional biopsy. The course also incorporates procedural safety, aseptic technique, specimen handling, post-procedure care, complication recognition, and clinical documentation.

This course is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing for 8 CEUs and combines focused instruction, faculty demonstration, and hands-on practice using clinical simulation models. Completion of the course provides continuing education credit and does not independently confer certification, credentialing, clinical privileges, or authorization to perform any specific procedure.
